Executed under the Paramount Go Green Initiative (PGGI), the Taking Root 2023 event marks the beginning of our strides towards embracing environmental sustainability. This momentous tree-planting event was held at the Karahalli Govt High School, along the foothills of the Nandi Hills, and was aimed at setting up clear paths for our dedication towards preserving the planet.
The When & Where
Paramount collaborated with Sankalpataru Foundation, an NGO that recognizes ecological challenges and works towards making a positive impact, to make Taking Roots 2023 possible. The selection of this particular location was based on the wide open spaces and the possibilities of nurturing these plants while they grow. After all, our responsibilities go beyond just planting, we need to take care of these until they grow.
So, Karahalli Govt High School (Bengaluru) is located in a vicinity away from hustling city life, a place fit for promoting greenery and a sustainable environment. The event took place on July 9, 2023 and caught the immediate attention of the locals.
The Event Day
With the help of Sankalpataru Foundation and the students from Karahalli Govt High School, we planted 500+ saplings of 30+ tree species. The event commenced in the presence of 7 volunteers from the NGO, 45 students, and 12 Paramountians and their family members.
Taking Root was aimed at achieving the concept of dense forest with multiple species of trees. We named it ‘Paramount Forest’. We aspire to build economic sustainability with our initiatives as well. This event itself created 70 new jobs around maintaining the plantation area and we aim to extend our endeavors more in the future. Plus, the students would also get to learn a lot about different species of trees and their uses in our daily lives practically, and not only from books.
Present at the attendance was Sushma Ganapathi, the HR Specialist at Paramount, who feels that Taking Root holds a significant meaning for the company in the context of promoting sustainability. She even mentions that “The event marked a crucial step in the journey towards environmental conservation and sustainability. The act of planting trees symbolized the process of taking roots, not just in the soil but also in the hearts of the participants and the community.”
We had even made lunch arrangements for everyone present with us on the day. After all, they are the ones who help us make our vision possible. The event came to a close around 4:00 pm and everyone headed home after a fruitful and satisfying day.
Final Thoughts, the Paramount Way
Looking ahead, Paramount envisions an intricately woven future with sustainable practices. Taking Root 2023 is just a stepping stone in a journey toward comprehensive sustainability through the ‘Paramount Go Green Initiative’. We plan to implement a multi-faceted approach that integrates sustainable practices into our core social responsibilities.
We also recognize the importance of partnerships in transforming sustainability plans into actions. Our collaboration with Sankalpataru Foundation proved to play the biggest role in making the sustainability initiative a success.
We look forward to continuing our unwavering sustainability efforts beyond just the act of planting trees; instead integrating them in all aspects of our operations.
